The Shadow II shares the honor of being one of two 3-slot Bianchi belt holster designs with the Piranha. They seem to have so much in common that it's hard to tell them apart.

Both are cut from high quality leather. Both feature a 15 degree forward cant. Both have integrated retention straps. Both allow the shooter to carry a pistol in either the strong side or cross draw positions. Both are fashioned to match up to the curve of the body and insure a comfortable fit. Both are available in either black or tan color schemes and for either right or left handed shooters while accommodating gun belts up to 1 & 3/4" in width.

In fact, there are only a few differences. The Shadow II is designed to be a high ride holster. Carrying high is not as popular as it once was, but those who prefer it are often hard pressed to find belt holsters like the Shadow II that fit the bill. The Shadow II is also not "deep" molded like it's cousin. To some, this makes a difference; to others, it doesn't even register on the scale of features that make a good belt holster.

A few mild differences include the fact that the Shadow II 3-slot design is intended to allow for variation in the angle of carry while the Piranha is meant specifically to accommodate cross draw carry. Another is that the Shadow II can facilitate cross draw carry as well, but it is not marketed in that way. A third is easily identified by the fact that the Piranha features a low cut front while the Shadow II does not.

The single largest advantage that the Shadow II has over the Piranha is that it is made to fit a far greater number of handgun models. Almost three times as many to be exact. And while the Piranha doesn't support any revolvers, the Shadow II does.

Is the Piranha newer than that Bianchi Shadow II belt holster? Yes. Does newer mean better? Read some reviews below to find out what real shooters think about this holster and then judge for yourself.
