The most recently developed line of holsters from Fobus may just be their best. Dubbed the Evolution holster series, these innovative designs push the envelope of what injection-molded holsters can do.

Evolution holsters are comprised of both belt and paddle holster configurations that can be found either in standard or Roto holster setups. We'll review the standard Evo paddle holster here the other configurations can be found on the main Fobus Holsters page.

While both the Evolution and the Classic Fobus paddle holsters share a common design, the Evolution series incorporates a number of new features that shooters everywhere have found convenient.

The first is the integration of a tension screw to adjust the ease of presentation and the security of retention of the famous Fobus passive retention system. The original Fobus paddle holster lacked this feature which has become a must-have for many competition shooters.

The main paddle holster body itself is now molded from a single piece of polymer. This means that the holster lacks the rivet points of the original which creates a smoother, more streamlined profile. The only rivets found on the Evolution are at the steel-reinforced connection point between the holster body and the paddle itself.

Favorite features found on most Fobus holsters are still present in the Evolution paddle holster. These include the molded sight channel to protect the front sight when drawing and holstering the weapon, and a rubberized paddle.

All Evolution paddle holsters are made in a slide configuration so multiple frame sizes of the same gun can typically be used in a single holster and of course the ease of maintenance is retained in this holster as well.

    Proteus reviewed this item on:

I have contacted Fobus regarding the Evolution holster, specifically that Fobus does not offer a “non rail” holster in the Evolution for the 1911.

I inquired if they were going to make a “non rail” 1911 holster, as I was sure (many more 1911 non rail owners than rail) the non rail 1911 firearms would be loose in their Evolution rail holsters.

Fobus tech person said, I quote, “that you should place a bit of velco in the inside of their holster near the trigger guard to stop the rattle of “non rail” 1911 weapons.

Sorry, cannot support this type of instruction regarding their idea to modify the Evolution to fit a “non rail” 1911 firearm.

I have used Fobus product for over 10 years and still do, utilizing the compact paddle for my 3″ Colt. I would like to have a new Evolution holster, however…
