The Summer Special was originally designed by Bruce Nelson and is considered by some to be the classic IWB holster by which all others are judged. Bruce was involved in law enforcement at the same time that he was producing holsters and as the demand grew it became increasingly difficult to keep up with the overflow of orders.
Milt Sparks began producing the Summer Special IWB holster in consort with Bruce to help meet the needs of the buyers. He initially improved on the design by adding sight rails, and then he found that a second belt loop enhanced the stability of the holster when worn.
The Summer Special features a metal stiffener in the top band which allows for easy reholstering with just one hand. Belt loops are secured with one way directional snaps. The holster leaves the leather rough side out. This increases the friction between the shooters clothing and the holster to, in essence, weld the holster in place when the gun is drawn and presented. Leaving the smooth side in also has the added benefit in that the IWB holster is more gentle on the finish of the gun it houses.

The Summer Special comes standard for most pistols and revolvers with two belt loops. A few exceptions to the rule apply for some small revolvers and pistols which come with one loop only.

Ever since I first bought this holster I’ve been throughly taken with it. It’s so comfortable that sometimes I jump, a bit scared, thinking that I left my gun and holster together somewhere. It’s held up pretty well compared to other holsters, but some of the stitching is a bit more worn than other holsters. Maybe because I wear it more?
