Paddle Holster Reviews

The Paddle Holster design is based on the idea that it is possible to secure the holster in place by using the surface of the holster itself to keep it in place. Many fans of this holster style feel that is the most convenient way to consistently carry a gun ever conceived by the mind of man.

These enthusiast feel the major advantage that the pancake holster has over other designs such as the IWB holster is that it is purpose built to allow the holster and the handgun it contains to be removed as one unit from from the waistline without having to unstrap or unclasp any retaining mechanism. This is made possible because a concave piece of leather or plastic, which is molded to the curve of the hip, maintains enough surface area contact with the waistline of the pants that friction alone is able to keep the holster in place when the pistol is drawn. Such a design means that it is often not necessary to wear a belt when using a paddle holster as long as the waistline of the shorts or trousers being worn can support the weight of the gun properly.

Most, but not all, pancake holsters will use Talon Clips or something similar as secondary method of securing the holster in place. The use of any types of loops and snaps usually mean that that holster is no longer considered a pancake holster.

Overall, those who's lifestyle or line of work have them needing to remove their sidearm frequently can do so with minimal frustration. A good example of someone that would benefit from using a pancake holsters would be a public school teacher. Schools, in most states, are no-go zones for handguns regardless of whether or not your have a carry permit. A high school teacher would thus find himself having to leave his pistol in the car when entering his place of employment. A paddle holster would make it easier to slip the loaded handgun in place either during a lunch break or at the end of the day.
